Geis inaugurates logistics terminal near Würzburg

Bad Neustadt / Kürnach, 11. October 2011. On 10 October of this year, the internationally-active Geis Group officially inaugurated its new logistics terminal in Kürnach near Würzburg. Inside the 7,800m2 facility, which came online a few weeks ago, the company implements contract logistics solutions for major clients. Geis has invested 5.8 million Euros in the terminal and created 40 new jobs.

Around 100 guests attended the inauguration ceremony, including the guests of honour Sieglinde Bayerl, Deputy Mayor of Kürnach, Michael Weber, Mayor of Estenfeld, and Manfred Ländner, a member of the Bavarian Parliament.

New building with synergy potential

The new facility has been constructed in recent months right next to the existing Geis Group freight terminal. "We offered contract logistics services to our customers in and around Würzburg in the past too, using our freight terminal and several field warehouses", says Site Manager Henry Portisch. "The new logistics centre takes the place of the external warehouses and relieves the freight terminal. It will enable us to significantly accelerate our processes and design our services to be even more efficient for customers."

The facility itself is state of the art. In addition to a clear height of 10.50 metres it has a high bay area with 8,400 pallet spaces, flexibly-sized picking and handling areas, and a shelving area. Trucks can access the facility through nine loading and unloading bays and a ground-floor access bay.

Solutions for new and existing customers

The first new customer to move into the terminal is from the textile industry. Geis now takes care of Kitzingen-based fashion label Drykorn’s entire logistics at Kürnach, from goods inwards through quality control, warehousing and picking & packing, to dispatch. The facility also offers optimal conditions for existing customers. The contract logistics solutions for packaging specialists Antalis Packaging for example, whose palettes were previously spread across the freight terminal and the external warehouses, are now all bundled in the new terminal.

The new building strengthens the company’s market position as a full-service logistics provider in Franconia. Henry Portisch comments: "We’re already working successfully for many customers in Kürnach and still have spare capacity for new customers. The 26,650m2 site also has space for a second, identical terminal. If the demand for optimal logistic conditions continues to grow, we’re well prepared for it."
